If You Are Scammed, Is It Karma or Should You Report It?

2026-09-18

Suppose there is a very kind person,

who often helps other people.

One day, however, a fraudster cheats him out of all his savings.

He feels angry and hopeless.

At this moment, how would Buddhism and Christianity speak to him?

Traditional Buddhism often explains suffering through cause and effect, Karma, and rebirth:

Do not remain controlled by anger.

The suffering you face today may be connected with Karma from the past.

Some popular Buddhist sayings may even say:

Perhaps you owed him something in a past life,

and today you are paying back an old debt.

So you should let go of hatred and avoid creating new bad Karma.

But the Bible gives a very different answer.

The Bible first tells you:

The fraudster has sinned.

Fraud is sin.

Evil is evil.

God hates injustice.

You do not need to call a crime “my fate.”

If this is fraud,

Report it to the police, keep the evidence, and seek lawful accountability.

The Bible says that we must not take personal revenge,

but the government has a responsibility to punish those who do wrong.

所以,

Therefore,

Not taking personal revenge does not mean giving up justice.

Reporting the crime is not only for yourself.

Because if this fraudster is not stopped,

he may cheat another elderly person or another family tomorrow.

Protecting the next possible victim

is also part of loving your neighbor.

Christianity does not tell you to simply endure evil,

and it does not tell you to live in hatred.

而是:

Instead:

Seek justice, help the victim, protect your neighbor, and finally leave judgment in God’s hands.
